5 Ways to Fight Sugar-Related Aging

facial exercisesThe three-pronged approach I recommend for fighting the signs of aging includes using good products, daily facial exercises and following a healthy diet. What always surprises me is that many people don’t take diet into consideration. Diet definitely impacts your skin—especially when you eat too much sugar and simple carbs. When there is too much sugar in your bloodstream, a nasty process called glycation occurs. Glycation causes the sugars you consume to produce advanced glycation end products (AGEs).

The high blood sugar levels that set the stage for AGEs causes our bodies and skin to age faster. The formation of AGEs leads to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the essential protein fibers that gives our skin its firmness and elasticity. AGEs also cause age spots and hyperpigmentation, dull skin tone, inflammation, fine lines, wrinkles, and the thickening and sagging of skin. Exposure to ultraviolet rays expedites glycation, further increasing the appearance of the signs of aging.

Below are some five ways to combat AGEs and boost the results of daily facial exercises.

1. Cut Down on Sugar

Skip sugary sweets and simple carbs, which convert to sugar in your bloodstream, as much as possible. Load up on lean protein and fiber to help fill you up so you don’t have hunger pangs. If you have a sweet tooth, opt for a piece of fruit to curb that evil craving.

2. Attain and Maintain a Healthy Weight

Studies show that weight gain can contribute to the formation AGEs. Strive to reach and maintain a healthy weight for your size.

3. Wear Sunscreen

Since exposure to the sun’s rays bolsters the formation of AGEs, wear sunscreen every single day. Wear it on your face, neck, décolletage, arms, legs, hands—basically anywhere that is at risk for sun exposure.

4. Do Strength or Resistance Training

One of the pitfalls of aging is that we naturally lose muscle mass, which can boost blood sugar levels and lead to more AGEs formation. Strength and resistance training is awesome because it helps your rebuild muscles. The greater your lean muscle mass, the more glucose your muscles consume.

5. Limit Alcohol Consumption

Alcohol can convert to sugar in your body and also boosts glycation. Limit your alcohol intake and avoid sugar-laden mixers altogether.

6 Skin Care Tips for Transitioning to Fall 500 750 Facercise

6 Skin Care Tips for Transitioning to Fall

facial exercisesWhile Fall brings relief from the hot summer sun, it’s not time slow down on daily sunscreen, skin care and facial exercises. Some of the humidity and moisture may dissipate this time of year, which means we need to compensate and adjust our skin care regimes. Below are some tips to help you transition your routine during this seasonal change so you can maintain happy skin and a youthful glow.

1. Start the Season with a Facial

Slough dead skin cells from the summer with an in-spa facial to start the season right. This will prep your skin for cooler and possibly harsher weather. Plus, it gives you time to relax and pamper yourself. If you can’t make it to the spa, do a Face Lift to Go at home.

2. Incorporate Vitamin C

Now is an ideal time to add vitamin C into your routine, both with supplements and skin care products. Brighten up your skin with a rich vitamin C serum such as my Hi-Density Vitamin C serum. It will help remove sun spots and hyperpigmentation that developed during the summer months. Apply it to your face, neck, décolletage and hands every morning.

3. Retinol

At night, shed dead skin cells and prevent the signs of aging with retinol, a potent derivative of vitamin A. This will help undo some of the signs of aging, even out skin tone and impart a healthy glow. My Retinol Skin Conditioner is an excellent choice.

4. Change Cleansers

When the climate changes, you may want to switch to a richer, creamier cleanser such as my Creamy Milk Cleanser. It is milder on your skin so that you avoid the irritation that might be caused by a harsher cleanser or one with exfoliant properties.

5. Use a Richer Moisturizer

As the air becomes cooler and drier, you may need to use a richer moisturizer to enhance the skin’s protective barrier. It’s a good time to opt for a product like my Ultra Hyaluronic Cream as it attracts significant moisture to your skin. Studies show it can increase moisture up to 300 percent!

6. Protect Your Lips

Often times, we experience dry, chapped lips due to colder weather. Protect your skin with a hydrating lip balm with SPF during the day—it serves as an excellent base for your lipstick or lip gloss. At night, apply vitamin E oil to rehydrate and combat free radical damage.

4th of July Survival Tips

facial exercisesJust when you thought you could take a break from your workouts, diet and facial exercises, this post caught your eye. The Fourth of July weekend is here and that means sun, fun and friends for most of us. Yet summer seems to be filled with all of the above so it’s important to make a plan. It’s possible to enjoy yourself in moderation and protect yourself from too much sun, carbs and calories.

If you want to look your very best this weekend and beyond, read our tips for surviving the 4th of July without doing damage.

Hydrate All Weekend

Sometimes our posts sound like a broken record, but that is how important hydration is. You must stay hydrated all weekend to combat thirst, which is commonly mistaken for hunger, and to flush the toxins from your system. Proper hydration keeps you full so you don’t overeat and it plumps up our skin cells. When our cells are dehydrated, collagen breaks down and skin appears dull and saggy. Drink lemon water, green tea and add fruit to sparkling water to feel like you’re having a treat.

Hit the Gym

Make sure to follow your normal exercise regimen, even if you’re on vacation. Squeeze in some gym time or take a run in the neighborhood. Since you may be indulging more than normal, this will help offset extra calories you may consume. Get outside and join in some physical activity whenever you can—it’s an excellent way to bond with friends and boost endorphins.

Track It

To make sure you’re not in sedentary mode, use a FitBit or tracking app to ensure you’re taking lots of steps and burning calories.

Overload on Sunscreen

One product you can’t overdo is sunscreen, especially when you’ll be outdoors more than usual. Apply it at least 20 minutes before heading outside and re-apply every 90 minutes. Use it on your face and entire body to protect your skin from the sun’s powerful ultraviolet rays. A day of sunburn can undo some of the amazing results garnered from a daily practice of facial exercises.

Treat Your Skin

Since your skin will be on display at any events you plan to attend this weekend, do a mask such as Face Lift to Go to give you a healthy, radiant glow. Do your facial exercises, dry brushing and No Lipo Lipo as you normally would, even if you’re out of town. Those amazing Sisal Louffas barely take up any room in your suitcase so don’t leave yours at home. You can stream the Ultimate Facercise and No Lipo Lipo DVDs on Amazon Video so you don’t have to miss a beat.

Prepare Yourself

Whether you’re dieting or trying to maintain results, it’s important to get in the right frame of mind. If you plan to have a cheat day, choose which it will be in advance. The last thing you want to do is allow things to turn into a cheat weekend, let alone a five day one. Don’t go anywhere on an empty stomach—if you do, chances are you will overeat. Have a protein or fiber-rich snack before you go anywhere and do not skip breakfast. If you plan to drink alcohol, set the boundaries in advance, such as one two white wine spritzers or one glass or Prosecco. Have a glass of water in between each cocktail to keep yourself hydrated.

3 Pillowcases for Improving Beauty Sleep 500 332 Facercise

3 Pillowcases for Improving Beauty Sleep

facial exercisesWhen we’re awake, we can do facial exercises and use skin care products to combat aging and look our best. Yet the work doesn’t stop there—beauty sleep helps our skin repair and rejuvenate. However, if we don’t sleep in the optimal position—on our backs—sleep can wreak havoc. This can appear in the form of deep creases and lines caused by the position you sleep in and the wrong type of pillowcases. Frizzy hair and breakage is another casualty of what should be beauty sleep. Since we spend almost a third of our lives sleeping, shouldn’t we make the most of this precious time?

Until now, the majority of pillowcases were made of cotton. Since it is naturally absorbent, cotton actually draws moisture away from the skin. So all those expensive products actually get absorbed by the pillowcase while your skin just gets drier. The good news is, there is a bevy of pillowcases that target our beauty concerns and help you wake up looking fresh and dewier than before.

1. Silk Pillowcases

A longstanding favorite of the beauty community is the silk pillowcase. Unlike those made of cotton, silk pillowcases help your skin retain its moisture and prevent the sleep lines that result in permanent wrinkles over time. Silk is naturally cool, so you’ll perspire less, which helps those with oily skin avoid breakouts. It is also softer on your hair so there will be no friction to cause breakage or split ends.

2. Satin Pillowcases

The benefits of satin are very similar to those of silk. Unlike cotton, which pulls and doesn’t let your skin slide as you move in your sleep, satin allows it to move. Like silk, satin helps skin retain moisture and doesn’t absorb the products you apply before bed. Since satin is so smooth, it doesn’t cause hair breakage or split ends.

3. Copper-Infused Pillowcases

A new type of pillowcase on the market is Iluminage‘s copper-infused model. It’s made from polyester entwined with copper fibers that have been shown to boost the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Studies show that you should see more radiant skin and a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles after four weeks of use.

5 Sun Protection Tips 194 259 Facercise

5 Sun Protection Tips

facial exercisesSummer is around the corner. It evokes thoughts of vacations, bare feet and idling the days away sunbathing. Yet as relaxing as the latter sounds, it brings with it dangerous exposure to UV rays.  Too much of these dangerous rays causes signs of aging, sun damage and skin cancer. Since it’s unrealistic to avoid the great outdoors altogether, we’re providing some excellent tips to protect your skin during summertime. Add these tips to your regimen of daily facial exercises and you’ll keep your complexion in gorgeous condition for the most skin-baring season of all.

1. Wear Sunscreen Religiously

One of the most important things you can do for your skin is to wear sunscreen every single day, rain or shine. Apply it 20 to 30 minutes before you head outdoors and re-apply every few hours as needed. That’s right—bring it with you everywhere. Don’t just apply it to your face—apply it to your neck, decollete, hands, arms and everywhere you don’t want sun damage to appear. Try my Protective Sunblock SPF 30 for light, velvety protection.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

Drink water all day long, especially during hot summer days when you’re chance of getting dehydrated is higher. This helps you flush the toxins from your body and keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. When your body isn’t properly hydrated, it zaps the moisture from your skin and hair, making them look dull, dry and generally lackluster.

3. Exfoliate

Exfoliate regularly to eliminate the buildup of dead skin cells. If your skin is dry, aim for 1 to 2 times per week and 2 to 3 if your skin is oily. Doing a Face Lift to Go treatment every week is a great way to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. Retinol helps keep your skin exfoliated as well.

4. Eat Right

Increase your intake of antioxidant-rich foods this time of year, especially those containing vitamin C and E, which can help reverse sun damage. Load up on fruits and vegetables, since they will help keep you hydrated. In addition, consume lots of lycopene-rich foods such as tomatoes, watermelon, grapefruit, papaya, guavas and red pepper—the powerful carotenoid helps protect your skin against harmful UV rays. Click through for an amazing diet hack and recipe for Tomato and Watermelon Salad that is packed with lycopene.

5. Spritz

Keep your skin hydrated and freshen up your makeup regularly throughout the day with my Heavy Water Spritz. This will help bind moisture to the skin to keep it hydrated and give you a dewy glow.

Top 5 Benefits of High Density C Serum 400 266 Facercise

Top 5 Benefits of High Density C Serum

facial exercisesMany clients use High Density C Serum in conjunction with our system of facial exercises to keep wrinkles at bay. A topical vitamin C serum is an ideal way to keep skin looking bright and youthful while fighting damage caused by aging and the environment. Once you add it to your anti-aging arsenal, you will see enviable results within a matter of weeks.

High Density C Serum delivers a highly concentrated form of vitamin C to your skin in the most effective, efficient way possible. Serums are more rapidly absorbed and penetrate more deeply than creams, which means faster, better results. Regular use will help you attain healthy, radiant, younger looking skin.

Read on to learn the top five benefits of incorporating High Density C Serum into your regimen.

1. Vitamin C Boosts Collagen Production

Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that binds our cells together. It provides structure and is responsible for the elasticity and plumpness of our skin. As we age, its natural production slows down and results in fine lines and wrinkles. Using a topical vitamin C serum stimulates collagen production to combat wrinkles, impart radiance and improve texture.

2. High Density C Serum Brightens the Skin

Sun damage and aging can result in uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation and sun spots. High Density C Serum acts as a natural, gentle bleaching agent that brightens and lightens these types of discolorations. It can even improve dark circles under the eyes.

3. Vitamin C Protects Against Sun Damage

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that can protect against UV damage by strengthening the skin barrier and thickening the dermis. While it helps reduce sun damage, it should be used in conjunction with sunscreen.

4. High Density C Serum Combats Free Radicals

Vitamin C’s antioxidant power protects against the aging effects of free radical damage.

5. Vitamin C Promotes Healing

Dermatologists often recommend the use of topical vitamin C to enhance cosmetic treatments and expedite healing. With its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, vitamin C can help heal wounds, scars and other conditions.
