5 Ways That Vitamin C Fights Aging

vitamin c serumI’ve touted the benefits of vitamin C to clients who do my facial exercises for years! It’s a natural weapon for maintaining healthy, youthful looking skin and a strong immune system. Also known as ascorbic acid, vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that helps the body form connective tissue and fight off disease. People of all ages should incorporate it into their skin care routines.

Read on to discover five ways vitamin C helps us combat the effects and signs of aging.

1. Re-Hydrates

No matter what time of year, vitamin C addresses dry, flaky and itchy skin. It quenches thirsty cells and helps them differentiate and mature normally.

2. Reduces Discoloration

Regular use of a vitamin C serum like my Vitamin C Complex Serum helps you achieve a more uniform skin tone. It reverses the appearance of sun spots and hyperpigmentation, as well as redness.

3. Brightens Skin

Vitamin C brightens and revives dull skin and improves your complexion. Consistent use of a vitamin C serum promises a more youthful glow.

4. Fights Damage

Vitamin C helps stop sun and free radical damage in its tracks. The sun’s dangerous UV rays wreak serious havoc while free radicals scavenge the skin, causing the formation of dark spots and collagen breakdown. Always incorporate a vitamin C product in addition to sunscreen.

5. Boosts Collagen Production

Collagen is a protein that is responsible for skin’s elasticity. As we age, skin loses its suppleness and thins. Vitamin C products stimulate collagen production, which promotes elasticity and thickens the skin. This significantly reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles—and therefore diminishes demand for risky facial injections!

6. Combats Inflammation

Vitamin C has been shown to reduce inflammation, which benefits our skin and overall health. This also expedites the body and skin’s healing processes.

Use Vitamin C Complex Serum regularly and Facercise every day to look up to 10 years younger!

The Best Way to Wash Your Face

best way to wash your faceYour daily skin care regimen can be just as important as facial exercises for fighting the signs of aging. The first step of your protocol should be washing your face. While it seems like an easy task, many people do it incorrectly. This can result in breakouts, an increase in the appearance of wrinkles and other unsightly damage.

The skin on your face is delicate and more sensitive than other areas of your body. The Stratum corneum, which is the outer layer of the dermis, is formed from dead skin cells connected by lipids, fatty compounds that help your skin retain moisture. You want to avoid damaging the lipids at all costs! Yet you don’t want dead cells to build up too much either or skin will appear dull and lackluster.

Avoid this by washing your face the right way! Start by taking off your makeup with a gentle remover using soft, easy strokes, especially around the delicate eye area. When you’re ready to apply cleanser, use warm to cool water—hot water can dissolve the lipids and strip skin of necessary oils. Apply your favorite cleanser using your fingertips and massage into your face using gentle, circular motions. Start at the bottom of your jaw and move upwards—think of defying gravity every time you cleanse. When you move downwards, you’re actually pulling the skin down, which promotes sagging. Strive to wash your face for a least 30 seconds of washing your face so the cleanser has time to work its magic.

If your skin feels irritated or there is visible redness, you are not being gentle enough. When you finish, gently pat your skin dry with a soft face towel. Then you are ready to follow the next step of your skin care protocol.

5 Sun Protection Tips 500 333 Facercise

5 Sun Protection Tips

facial exercisesSummer is around the corner. It evokes thoughts of vacations, bare feet and idling the days away sunbathing. Yet as relaxing as the latter sounds, it brings with it dangerous exposure to UV rays.  Too much of these dangerous rays causes signs of aging, sun damage and skin cancer. Since it’s unrealistic to avoid the great outdoors altogether, we’re providing some excellent tips to protect your skin during summertime. Add these tips to your regimen of daily facial exercises and you’ll keep your complexion in gorgeous condition for the most skin-baring season of all.

1. Wear Sunscreen Religiously

One of the most important things you can do for your skin is to wear sunscreen every single day, rain or shine. Apply it 20 to 30 minutes before you head outdoors and re-apply every few hours as needed. That’s right—bring it with you everywhere. Don’t just apply it to your face—apply it to your neck, decollete, hands, arms and everywhere you don’t want sun damage to appear. Try my Protective Sunblock SPF 30 for light, velvety protection.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

Drink water all day long, especially during hot summer days when you’re chance of getting dehydrated is higher. This helps you flush the toxins from your body and keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. When your body isn’t properly hydrated, it zaps the moisture from your skin and hair, making them look dull, dry and generally lackluster.

3. Exfoliate

Exfoliate regularly to eliminate the buildup of dead skin cells. If your skin is dry, aim for 1 to 2 times per week and 2 to 3 if your skin is oily. Doing a Face Lift to Go treatment every week is a great way to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin. Retinol helps keep your skin exfoliated as well.

4. Eat Right

Increase your intake of antioxidant-rich foods this time of year, especially those containing vitamin C and E, which can help reverse sun damage. Load up on fruits and vegetables, since they will help keep you hydrated. In addition, consume lots of lycopene-rich foods such as tomatoes, watermelon, grapefruit, papaya, guavas and red pepper—the powerful carotenoid helps protect your skin against harmful UV rays.

5. Spritz

Keep your skin hydrated and freshen up your makeup regularly throughout the day with my Heavy Water Spritz. This will help bind moisture to the skin to keep it hydrated and give you a dewy glow.

5 Reasons to Drink Green Tea 500 333 Facercise

5 Reasons to Drink Green Tea

facial exercisesTea has been touted for centuries for its medicinal and healing properties—and for good reason. Green tea is rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, which have anti-inflammatory properties that improve beauty, weight and overall health. It’s an excellent anti-aging complement to face exercises and No Lipo Lipo.

Here are five of incredible benefits of green tea.

1. Green Tea Improves Your Complexion

Drinking green tea helps flush the toxins from your skin, while reducing inflammation that causes breakouts and promoting faster healing. Green tea also contains catechins, antibacterial agents that help fight bacteria that causes acne and regulate hormonal imbalances. Studies have shown that the antioxidants in green tea also boost elasticity.

2. It Fights Aging

Green tea contains polyphenols that help combat free radicals that damage the skin and accelerate aging.

3. Green Tea Reduces Puffy Eyes

We all remember the old school tea-bags-on the-eyelids remedy that so many of us used to disguise a hangover. The good news is, green tea is actually the real deal when it comes to reducing the appearance of dark circles and puffy eyes, due to its content of tannins, antioxidants and vitamin K.

4. It Promotes Weight Loss

Research shows that green tea boasts natural thermogenic properties and polyphenols that oxidize fat faster and boosts our metabolic rate. It also contains EGCG, an antioxidant that ultimately helps break down more fat in our bodies. It has also been shown to help regular blood sugar levels.

5. Green Tea Helps Reduce Stress

Green tea is rich in the amino acid l-theanine, which helps increase alpha waves in the brain, a natural state that helps reduce stress and anxiety.

Swap out those fattening coffee drinks for two cups of green tea each day—you will love the results. Follow tips like these in conjunction with a regular Facercise practice to look and feel your best. Our revolutionary system of facial exercises will make you look up to 10 years younger!

5 Ways to Prevent Age Spots & Hyperpigmentation 1024 683 Facercise

5 Ways to Prevent Age Spots & Hyperpigmentation

system of facial exercisesAge spots and hyperpigmentation can be hard to get rid of. These dark splotches appear in the most obvious places—our face, neck, hands, you name it! They’re a major sign of aging and sun damage and can grow worse with continued exposure to the sun and other elements. While treatments do exist to remove them, prevention is a much better route.

Here are five ways to prevent age spots and hyperpigmentation.

1. Avoid the Sun

One of the most obvious ways to prevent sun damage and discoloration is to stay out of the sun. Its powerful UV rays are at their most dangerous between 10 am and 4 pm, so make sure to avoid exposure during those hours. If you do head outdoors, wear a hat, sunglasses, long pants and sleeves with built-in SPF protection.

2. UV Protection

Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater every single day, rain or shine. Use it on your face, hands and entire body. Apply it 20 minutes before you head outside so that your skin has time to absorb it. If you do plan to spend time outdoors, re-apply every hour or so. Our Protective Sunblock SPF 30 provides effective protection that melts into the skin.

3. Eat an Antioxidant-Rich Diet

Antioxidants help protect against damage from the sun and free radicals. Foods that contain lycopene and beta-carotene specifically act as an internal sunscreen, fighting damage from within. Excellent antioxidant sources include fresh, colorful fruits and green leafy vegetables.

4. Protect with Vitamin C

Research shows that vitamin C protects against sun damage and can even repair discoloration. Eat foods loaded with it and apply a topical product, such as my Vitamin C Complex Serum.

5. Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating helps break apart pigmented cells so that they don’t grow darker. Use a gentle product and consult with a dermatologist or esthetician to determine how many times a week is necessary. Regular use of a retinol product like my Luxe Retinol Serum is an excellent way to keep skin exfoliated and promote cell turnover.
