How to Drink More Water

facial exercisesAre you drinking enough water? If not, you run the risk of dehydration, which takes a toll on your body and your skin. When we don’t drink enough water, our organs suffer and can shut down. Since your skin is the largest organ in your body, just imagine the damage it incurs when it’s dehydrated. It becomes weaker, more sensitive and less effective as a protective barrier. Dehydration derails results from your facial exercises too—it causes skin irritation, redness, flakiness, cracking and premature aging. The plumpness, firmness and elasticity of skin diminishes and its texture becomes rough. Not a good look!

Dehydrated skin occurs when skin is composed of less than 10 percent or water. This makes drinking six to eight glasses of water per day especially vital during hot summer months. Drinking water can seem like a chore sometimes, so here are some tips to help make sure you hydrate adequately.

Wake Up & Hydrate

Make it a habit to drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up. Do this before having coffee, juice or anything else.

Carry a Water bottle

Have a water bottle with you at all times so you can sip on the go. Opt for one with measurements so you can keep track of your daily intake.

Spike Your Water

If water is too boring for you, add some flavor by steeping or infusing fresh fruit or veggies. Lemon water is an excellent choice because promotes healthy digestion, combats bloating and boosts detoxification. You can also add some excitement with berries, grapefruit, cucumber slices or mint. Take it to another level by doing combinations like watermelon-mint, cucumber-basil or strawberry-kiwi.

Infuse

Invest in an infusion bottle so you can take your flavored water on the go.

Make it Like Clockwork

Set your alarm to remind you to drink water several times throughout the day.

Make it a Ritual

Set aside a time each day for enjoying a glass of lemon or fruit-infused water. Enjoy it with an afternoon snack and make it like a healthy happy hour break.

7 Anti-Aging Hacks

face exercisesMaintaining youthful skin requires a comprehensive regimen. You’ve got to take great care of your skin, from both the inside and out, on a very consistent basis if you want to combat wrinkles and preserve a healthy glow. It takes a lot of work, but when you look good, you feel even better.

Read on for anti-aging hacks that will take the results of your skin care regimen to the next level.

1. Sleep on Your Back

When your face is pressed against a pillow every night, sleep wrinkles form. Avoid this by sleeping on your back, which helps prevent wrinkles from forming on your neck and décolletage and is healthier for your spine. If you have trouble making this shift, try laying down for 15 minutes on your back every day to build muscle memory.  You can also put a pillow under your knees, remove the one from under your head, and hug a small pillow to your chest. Psychologically, this gives you the same feeling as if you were in the fetal position on your side.

2. Flush Puffiness Away

Puffy faces and under eye bags are unsightly signs of aging. Reduce your sodium intake and hydrate properly to help decrease puffiness. Eat antioxidant-rich produce and cut down on foods and drinks that cause inflammation and bloating. This means you need to avoid processed foods, sugar, simple carbs, wheat, dairy and alcohol as much as possible.

3. Always Wear Sunglasses

Don polarized lenses every day to block the sun’s damaging rays. This will protect your eyesight and prevent the squinting that leads to fine lines and crow’s feet.

4. Do Face Exercises

Doing facial exercises daily will tone, firm and smooth your skin and help prevent future signs of aging.

5. Drink to Your Health

It’s essential to consume lots of water to flush the toxins out of your system. Take your efforts to the next level by drinking other beneficial beverages too, such as green and white tea, low-sugar smoothies and lemon water.

6. Wear Hats When You Step Outside

If you want to avoid sun spots and hyperpigmentation, wear hats to provide as much coverage as possible. This is an absolute must if you whenever you hit the beach or spend an extended amount of time outdoors.

7. Apply Eye Cream by Tapping

Don’t rub product into the delicate skin around your eye, the skin is just too sensitive. Instead, gently tap the product with your finger.

4th of July Survival Tips

facial exercisesJust when you thought you could take a break from your workouts, diet and facial exercises, this post caught your eye. The Fourth of July weekend is here and that means sun, fun and friends for most of us. Yet summer seems to be filled with all of the above so it’s important to make a plan. It’s possible to enjoy yourself in moderation and protect yourself from too much sun, carbs and calories.

If you want to look your very best this weekend and beyond, read our tips for surviving the 4th of July without doing damage.

Hydrate All Weekend

Sometimes our posts sound like a broken record, but that is how important hydration is. You must stay hydrated all weekend to combat thirst, which is commonly mistaken for hunger, and to flush the toxins from your system. Proper hydration keeps you full so you don’t overeat and it plumps up our skin cells. When our cells are dehydrated, collagen breaks down and skin appears dull and saggy. Drink lemon water, green tea and add fruit to sparkling water to feel like you’re having a treat.

Hit the Gym

Make sure to follow your normal exercise regimen, even if you’re on vacation. Squeeze in some gym time or take a run in the neighborhood. Since you may be indulging more than normal, this will help offset extra calories you may consume. Get outside and join in some physical activity whenever you can—it’s an excellent way to bond with friends and boost endorphins.

Track It

To make sure you’re not in sedentary mode, use a FitBit or tracking app to ensure you’re taking lots of steps and burning calories.

Overload on Sunscreen

One product you can’t overdo is sunscreen, especially when you’ll be outdoors more than usual. Apply it at least 20 minutes before heading outside and re-apply every 90 minutes. Use it on your face and entire body to protect your skin from the sun’s powerful ultraviolet rays. A day of sunburn can undo some of the amazing results garnered from a daily practice of facial exercises.

Treat Your Skin

Since your skin will be on display at any events you plan to attend this weekend, do a mask such as Face Lift to Go to give you a healthy, radiant glow. Do your facial exercises, dry brushing and No Lipo Lipo as you normally would, even if you’re out of town. Those amazing Sisal Louffas barely take up any room in your suitcase so don’t leave yours at home. You can stream the Ultimate Facercise and No Lipo Lipo DVDs on Amazon Video so you don’t have to miss a beat.

Prepare Yourself

Whether you’re dieting or trying to maintain results, it’s important to get in the right frame of mind. If you plan to have a cheat day, choose which it will be in advance. The last thing you want to do is allow things to turn into a cheat weekend, let alone a five day one. Don’t go anywhere on an empty stomach—if you do, chances are you will overeat. Have a protein or fiber-rich snack before you go anywhere and do not skip breakfast. If you plan to drink alcohol, set the boundaries in advance, such as one two white wine spritzers or one glass or Prosecco. Have a glass of water in between each cocktail to keep yourself hydrated.
