How Alcohol Damages Your Skin 400 266 Facercise

How Alcohol Damages Your Skin

facial exercisesWhen you dedicate so much time and effort doing facial exercises and following a proper skincare regimen, it only makes sense to follow a healthy lifestyle. It plays one of the most important parts in keeping skin looking young. An diet rich in antioxidants and lean protein, coupled with regular exercise, makes a huge difference in your skin and overall health.

Yet there is a common culprit that can deter all your hard work: alcohol. When it comes to alcohol consumption, moderation is key. If abstinence is not an option, then it’s important to develop guidelines for your intake. If you need some motivation for moderation, read on to learn how alcohol affects your skin.

Dehydration

Alcohol severely dehydrates your skin. Since the skin is primarily composed of water, dehydration causes it to lose that youthful plumpness we’re all striving for. It also makes fine lines and wrinkles appear more prominent and causes skin to look puffy. Worse yet—dehydration damage causes you to look older over time.

Inflammation

Alcohol causes inflammation, which results in a histamine reaction that results in redness, flushing and capillary damage. It also exacerbates rosacea.

Breakouts

Alcohol negatively affects our adrenal glands, causing adrenal fatigue. This is believed to cause hormonal breakouts. The inflammation that drinking alcohol causes also contributes to blemishes.

Nutrient Depletion

Drinking alcohol depletes important vitamins and antioxidants from your body, which blocks the delivery of oxygen to cells. It also significantly diminishes vitamin A, which is essential for cell regeneration.

Aging

The inflammation caused by excessive alcohol consumption promotes harmful free radical activity that leads to the breakdown to collagen and elastin. This results in loss of firmness and elasticity and actually causes wrinkling.

6 Superfoods for Glowing Skin

If you want to enhance results from facial exercises, eating a diet packed with superfoods is key. What we put in our body has great impact on both the health and appearance of our skin. Read on to discover six foods that combat the signs of aging, boost radiance and improve the health of your skin.

1. Omega-Rich Fish

Wild-caught salmon, tuna and tiny fish like mackerel are packed with healthy fats like EPA and omega-3. These fatty acids reduce inflammation and impart moisture to the skin. These types of fish are also an excellent source of lean protein that helps build lean muscle and puts your appetite in check. In addition, wild-caught salmon is a good course of zinc, a trace mineral that stimulates collagen synthesis.

2. Avocados

Avocados are loaded with potent antioxidants like vitamin C and E that reduce inflammation help slow collagen breakdown. Their high levels of healthy monounsaturated fatty acids hydrate skin from the inside out to plump up wrinkles and boost that youthful glow.

3. Berries

Berries are an excellent source of antioxidants such as flavonoids, polyphenols, phytochemicals and carotenoids. While all berries are good for you, the darker the berry, the greater the antioxidant content. This makes blackberries, raspberries and blueberries your best choice. Berries also contain ellagic acid, which may help prevent collagen damage caused by the sun’s dangerous ultraviolet rays.

4. Beetroot

Beetroot is a powerful weapon against free radicals that cause wrinkling and sagging. It also helps purify and detoxify our bloodstream. Beetroot contains strong levels of potassium, magnesium, calcium and vitamins A and E.

5. Kale

This green leafy vegetable is one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Kale is loaded with skin essentials that reduce inflammation and combat free radical damage including omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants like beta-carotene and vitamin C. It also contains copper, a mineral that boosts collagen production while promoting melanin synthesis to protect your skin from the sun. Kale is so good for your skin that some people rinse their face with kale juice in the morning!

6. Nuts & Seeds

Walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios, Brazil nuts and pumpkin seeds are rich in healthy fats that hydrate the skin and vitamins B and E, which helps prevent wrinkling. They also loaded with zinc and selenium, minerals that have been shown to boost skin health and detoxify the body.

6 Ways to Combat Hyperpigmentation 500 333 Facercise

6 Ways to Combat Hyperpigmentation

facial exercisesWhile the sun equals fun, the damage it does to our skin is no picnic. Its powerful UV rays cause everything from sunburns and wrinkles to melanoma and hyperpigmentation. The dark spots known as hyperpigmentation are very difficult to remove and can show up on every exposed body part. Their appearance can be intensified by skin irritation, pregnancy hormones, endocrine diseases, insulin resistance and various medications including chemotherapy drugs.

If avoiding the sun altogether isn’t an option, read on to learn how to combat hyperpigmentation and maintain the results of facial exercises.

1. Block the Sun

There’s a reason we mention sunblock in nearly every post—it’s so important to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Wear sunblock every single day on each part of your body that’s exposed. Re-apply several times per day, especially if you’re engaging in outdoor activities. Wear SPF clothing, sunglasses and a hat for ultimate protection.

2. Keep Cool

Melanin activity increases when your body overheats, which can lead to dark spots forming. If you get overheated or exercise outside, immediately cool your skin down with a wet cloth or ice pack.

3. Lighten Up

Go on the offensive with a lightening product like our gentle yet effective Brightening Cream. If you’re considering using a hydroquinone product, be sure to speak to your dermatologist first. Sometimes hydroquinone can exacerbate sun spots and worsen their appearance.

4. Retinol

Retinol products exfoliate and eliminate dead, discolored skin cells that appear as sun spots. They also boost collagen production, which helps fight free radical scavengers. Our new Luxe Retinol is perfect for sloughing away dead skin to reveal a radiant complexion.

5. Vitamin C Serum

Layer a vitamin C product like our Vitamin C Complex Serum to brighten up skin and help protect against sun damage.

6. Eat for Protection

Consume a diet of antioxidant-rich foods that act as an internal sunscreen. Lycopene and beta-carotene are two antioxidants that provide powerful protection. Some great sources include grapefruit, tomatoes, watermelon, papaya, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes and squash.

How to Get Rid of a Double Chin 358 259 Facercise

How to Get Rid of a Double Chin

facial exercisesOne of my favorite areas to help clients target with facial exercises is the dreaded, but extremely common “double chin.” Also known as the “wattle,” chin fat or submental fat, this condition can be extremely difficult to get rid of. The double chin can be caused by anything from weight loss and genetics to aging. The good news is, Facercise can reduce this condition safely and effectively.

Risky Strategies

Chin fat causes insecurity and angst for those suffering from this condition. Unfortunately, many seek risky surgical procedures to target sagginess in this area. They get plastic surgery, have liposuction or get “fat melting” injections in the area. While this seems like a speedy solution, there are a lot of risks associated with these procedures, and often times, the results are below expectations.

Anesthesia

There are complications associated with anesthesia, such as post-operative dizziness, nausea and confusion. In more serious cases, side effects can result in pneumonia, stroke, seizure, heart attack and even death.

Mediocre or Undesired Results

Some patients report dimpling or unevenness in the area. Often times, there is only very slight improvement from these methods. With injectables, patients often have to do multiple courses of treatment, with up to 50 injections in the area each time. Does that sound like fun?

Short-Term Side Effects

Many experience bruising, redness, swelling and even infection in the area after injections or liposuction. Those who opt for injectables may also experience nausea, hypertension, mouth or throat pain, numbness, headache and nerve injury.

The Best Option

Anecdotal evidence shows that facial exercises can strengthen, tone and firm the muscles in the chin area. With a regular Facercise practice, you can diminish the appearance of a double chin without any risk of side effects or unwanted results. You can safely lift, tighten and firm the wattle, without spending all your money on expensive plastic surgery.

With daily facial exercises, you will see a difference in a matter of weeks. For best results, do all of the exercises included on the Ultimate Facercise DVD. Our muscles operate synergistically so exercising the entire face will make the entire area firmer and more toned.

11 Anti-Aging Habits That Will Change Your Beauty Game 500 257 Facercise

11 Anti-Aging Habits That Will Change Your Beauty Game

facial exercisesGood habits are everything when it comes to looking and feeling your very best. Many studies show that how you stave off the signs of aging isn’t entirely dependent on genetics. In fact, lifestyle, environment and our skincare regimen play a significant role. From wearing sunscreen and getting facials to doing facial exercises every day, there are habits to master that will help prevent the signs of aging while imparting a beautiful glow.

Incorporate some of the habits below to maintain your youthful good looks.

1. Hydrate Properly

Drink plenty of water and green tea to hydrate your skin from the inside out. This helps maintain a dewy glow and can plump up the fines lines dehydration causes.

2. Live a Clean Lifestyle

Eat a healthy, antioxidant-rich die. Choose lean protein, whole grains and lots of colorful fruits and veggies. If you must drink alcohol, do so moderately.

3. Wear Sunscreen

Protect your skin from exposure to the sun’s harsh UV rays that cause wrinkles, deplete collagen stores and cause the formation of sun spots and hyperpigmentation. Apply sunblock to your skin every single day, no matter what the weather is like.

4. Rock Sunglasses

Sunglasses help prevent the squinting that leads to Crow’s feet while shielding the fragile skin from the sun’s dangerous rays. For next level protection, opt for lenses with a UV400 protection label, which can block 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays.

5. Incorporate Vitamin C

Consume a vitamin C-rich diet and apply a serum like our Vitamin C Complex Serum to combat damage from the sun and other environmental stressors.

6. Don’t Smoke

Smoking ages skin fast and ruthlessly. It dulls the complexion, clogs pores and depletes the oxygen supply. It causes deep vertical lines around the mouth and Crow’s feet. Smoking also breaks down collagen, which gives skin its elasticity and slows healing. It’s one of the worst things you can do to your skin.

7. Don’t Frown

Avoids frowning, squinting and making other facial movements that cause fine lines and wrinkles to form. When you frown repetitively, it causes angry looking creases like the dreaded brow furrow, also known as the “Elevens.”

8. Reduce Stress

Stress takes a serious toll on your skin. Make it a point to engage in activities that minimize its impact. Some excellent options include working out, yoga or Pilates, meditation, reading or getting a massage.

9. Sleep on Your Back

When you sleep on your stomach or your side, it causes deep folds and wrinkles on your face, neck and decolletage.  Sleep on our back to prevent these lines and to promote a healthy spine.

10. Do Facial Exercises

Facercise smooths wrinkles and promotes collagen production while firming and lifting the skin. Facial exercises also boost circulation, which imparts a youthful glow.

11. Work Out

Physical exercise is essential to promote better health and skin. It detoxifies our bodies, reduces stress, helps build muscle mass and boosts circulation, which facilitates the delivery of oxygen to our cells.

5 Benefits of Masking

facial exercisesMasking is an excellent complement to your skin care routine and facial exercises. Masks have had a resurgence in popularity recently—just take a look at Instagram. Everyone from pre-teens and stay-at-home moms to celebrities and CEOs post images of themselves rocking masks on social media. The benefits of masking can be immediate and long-lasting, especially when you choose the right type. Our favorite is Face Lift to Go, which imparts a multitude of benefits.

Read on to learn about five benefits of masking.

1. Deep Cleansing

Masks can deep cleanse and draw out toxins and impurities that clog pores and cause blemishes. A good mask can also speed up recovery from a breakout and prevent future ones. Face Lift to Go does all this while improving and refining the appearance of pores.

2. Hydration

Dehydrated skin benefits immensely from a moisturizing mask. The hydration provided by a moisture mask smooths out the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while plumping up skin cells. Skin also feels softer and refreshed after using a moisture-rich mask.

3. Exfoliation

Exfoliation is key for eliminating the dead skin cells that cause acne breakouts and dull skin. Face Lift to Go exfoliates with natural enzymes to slough the excess cells and impart a beautiful, rosy glow.

4. Product Absorption

Regular masking promotes better absorption of skin products so that their benefits are maximized.

5. Therapeutic Benefits

Masking is like therapy—it gives you the chance to relax and meditate. It’s the perfect form of self-care! Make the most of the experience so you can maximize both the physical and mental benefits. 5 Dietary Tips for Beautiful Skin 500 333 Facercise

5 Dietary Tips for Beautiful Skin

facial exercisesWhile facial exercises and skin care products keep your skin looking good from the outside, what you put inside your body can have just as much impact. It’s essential to maintain a healthy diet by eating antioxidant-rich food and avoiding certain dietary triggers. Read on for tips for perfecting your diet so you can enhance your skin care regimen and look your very best.

1. Go Organic

Choose organic meat, poultry and produce to avoid the growth hormones, steroids, pesticides and antibiotics that most traditionally grown produce contains.

2. Eat as Much Organic Produce as Possible

Produce is a fundamental part of a healthy diet. Eat colorful fruit and vegetables, especially those that contain high levels of antioxidants. For the best balance, try to fit in as much of the color spectrum as possible. Choose more vegetables than fruit, as the latter has a higher sugar content.

3. Cut Back on Dairy

Much research shows a strong correlation between dairy products and skin issues such as acne and aging. This is due to the hormones that make their way into cows’ milk. These hormones cause inflammation, cellular breakdown and increase oil production. Cut back, and when you do partake, opt for organic, hormone-free products. Products such as coconut, almond, oat and cashew milk make excellent dairy alternatives.

4. Reduce Sodium Intake

Too much sodium in your diet causes water retention, making it harder for your lymphatic system to flush away toxins. Excess sodium exacerbates acne as well, as it irritates the pores and impedes the body’s natural removal of toxins.

5. Cut Down on Sugar

Excessive sugar intake leads to hormonal shifts and increased glycation. Glycation occurs when sugars affect fats and proteins abnormally, resulting in the production of harmful molecules called “advanced glycation end products.” These evil entities cause proteins like collagen and elastin to break down and grow stiff, weak and inelastic. The result is sagging skin with more wrinkles and less glow. Avoid this by reducing sugar intake as much as possible.

Follow these tips to enhance the results of your regimen of skin care products and facial exercises. It’s okay to treat yourself every now and then, just be sure to do so in moderation.

5 Things to Avoid If You Want to Look Younger 500 281 Facercise

5 Things to Avoid If You Want to Look Younger

facial exercisesYou don’t have to get Botox and other fillers if you want to maintain fresh, youthful good looks. In fact, a good skin care protocol coupled with daily facial exercises will make you look younger and more natural than dermal fillers. It’s also important to avoid bad habits that break down collagen, slow circulation and cause the formation of wrinkles.

Here are five habits to eliminate immediately if you want to combat the signs of aging and maintain your looks.

1. Smoking

If you want to look older, keep smoking! The repetition of the movements involved with smoking causes deep lines around the lip area and all over the face. It slows the blood supply to our skin cells, depletes vitamin A and causes collagen to break down. The result is wrinkles, fine lines and dull, grey skin.

2. Sunbathing

The sun’s powerful ultraviolet rays cause significant damage in the form of sun spots, hyperpigmentation, deep lines and wrinkles. It also breaks down collagen, which is responsible for the flexibility and firmness of our skin. Stay out of the sun and protect your skin by wearing, hats, protective clothing and sunblock with a high SPF.

3. Squinting

Squinting causes Crow’s feet, undereye bags and those lovely brow furrows nicknamed the “elevens.” Wear sunglasses to protect the area and rock a hat whenever you step into the sun. If you need readers, wear them!

4. Sleeping on Your Stomach

Sleeping on your stomach smashes the skin on your face, neck and decolletage into the pillow and sheets. The pressure causes creases that can become permanent over time. Sleep on your back to prevent this from happening.

5. Excessive Drinking

Too much alcohol dehydrates your skin, causes blood vessels to burst and leads to sleep deprivation. These effects accelerate the signs of aging and diminish overall beauty.

Why We Need Sunblock All Year Long 500 320 Facercise

Why We Need Sunblock All Year Long

sunblockSunblock is not just for summer! Even some of my most devout Facercise clients only think about UV damage during summer months—this is a huge mistake. Just like you need to do facial exercises daily for optimum results, sunblock is necessary every day, rain or shine.

UV Rays are Potent

The sun produces three types of ultraviolet (UV) rays: UVA, UVB and UVC. Few are aware of UVC rays, but they are the most dangerous. While the atmosphere shields most UVC rays, we are not protected from UVA and UVB. Both types wreak serious damage; UVB rays can immediately scorch the top layers of the dermis while UVA rays affect the deeper layers of the skin.

UVA damage causes problems that are difficult to eradicate, including discoloration, sun spots and wrinkles. Both of these types of potent rays can lead to sunburns, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and even skin cancer.

Outdoor Exposure

If you go outdoors, you’re exposed to the dangerous UV rays. The sun literally never powers down! If you are in snowy weather, sun damage can be even stronger than in the summer—snow and ice can reflect nearly 90 percent of these powerful rays. Clouds are no match for blocking these rays either. You need to apply sunscreen even if you only plan to be outside briefly—a short walk to the car can intensify pre-existing damage within minutes. Apply sunblock a minimum of 20 minutes before you step foot outside.

You’re Never Safe

UVA rays can reach you in your car, even if you have tinted windows! Apply sunscreen for the car ride! Many suffer from uneven skin tone or sun spots on side of their face, neck and arms that is exposed by the driver’s side window. It’s a good idea to wear sunglasses and a hat for added protection.

Bottom line, you need a strong sunblock to protect your fragile skin all year long! Click through for information on our powerful sunblock and anti-aging system of facial exercises.
