Summertime is in full swing—it’s a great time to relax, vacation, spend time with friends and family, and enjoy the great outdoors. Yet it’s also time of year when we do the most damage to our skin, resulting in everything from fine lines and wrinkles to sunspots and hyperpigmentation. When you spend so much time and effort on your skin care regimen and do your facial exercises daily, it just doesn’t make sense to let those dangerous UV rays wreak havoc on your precious skin.
Read on for five ways to protect against and eliminate those unsightly signs of sun damage.
1. Sunscreen. This should be a given. Apply it to your face, hands, chest and neck—and any other areas where you don’t want sun spots to appear. Re-apply if you’re spending any extended amount of time outside.
2. Lightening products. There is an array of products you can use to lighten and brighten sun spots and hyperpigmentation—my Brightening Cream is a best-seller because it’s effective yet gentle.
3. Retinol. Retinol effectively exfoliates the skin, which encourages cell turnover so that those dry, discolored skin cells that may appear as sun spots are replaced with fresh new ones. 4. Cool down. When your body is overheated, melanin activity increases. After being outside or exercising in the heat, make sure to cool down the skin immediately with an ice pack or cool cloth.

Some excellent choices are tomatoes, grapefruit, watermelon, papaya, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, broccoli and squash. It’s also good to take supplements such as ester-C and vitamin E to help prevent and reduce sun damage.
