facial exercisesIf eyes are the windows to our soul, the last thing we want are bags underneath them and puffiness surrounding them. The thin, delicate skin around the eye area is one of the first places to show the signs of aging. While puffiness is considered a temporary condition, it stretches the delicate tissues and leads to loose, sagging skin, aka “bags.” Under-eye bags can be difficult, if not impossible, to get rid of without surgery. The good news is, if you do your facial exercises regularly and follow the tips below, you can stave off puffiness and help your eyes look fresh and youthful.

1. Sleep Right

Get adequate sleep every night. Most people need between seven and nine hours but do what works for you. The most important thing is to try and keep to a routine. Elevate your head with two pillows while you sleep to promote proper drainage. This will also minimize fluid retention that causes the puffiness you see when you wake up. Use silk or satin pillowcases to avoid fabric pulling on your skin when you move during sleep.

2. Shower in the Morning

Morning showers help decrease morning puffiness. When shower water hits your face, its force stimulates fluids surrounding the eyes and moves them out of the area. The water’s heat also boosts the lymphatic vessels to help eliminate toxins. If you shower at night, you’ll miss out on these benefits.

3. Treat Allergies

Allergies are a major cause of puffiness and bags under the eyes. They irritate the delicate under-eye tissue, resulting in redness, puffiness and swelling. This also makes you rub and tug at the skin. See a doctor to get your allergies under control and follow the protocol they recommend religiously.

4. Open Your Eyes

The Eye Opener is one of the most popular facial exercises in the Facercise system. Daily practice boosts circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system. This eliminates fluids in the eye area and firms the skin, which helps prevent the sagging that leads to bags.

5. Freeze Your Face

A great way to reduce puffy eyes is to cover them with a cold compress, cold spoons or a bag of frozen peas. Anything cold constricts the blood vessels, which prevents fluid collection in the area.
