Hydration
Are you drinking enough water every day? Hydration is absolutely essential for
healthy, glowing skin, especially when the weather heats up. Without it, our
skin looks dry and aged, while proper hydration keeps our skin looking firm and
supple. When our skin is not properly hydrated, it loses thickness and
elasticity. Our skin tone becomes dry, dull and ultra-sensitive, and wrinkles
are more easily formed.
Our skin’s water content helps it perform its protective functions, while
reducing signs of aging. Proper hydration keeps skin soft and helps us maintain
elasticity, while flushing toxins from our body, which can help reduce and
prevent acne as well. Our skin is able to heal faster when properly hydrated,
whereas when dermal cells are dehydrated, they lose suppleness and hair
follicles can get blocked, causing a nasty accumulation of bacteria that can
result in breakouts and infections.
To keep your skin hydrated and looking its best, drink plenty of water,
especially this time of year. Moist physicians and dermatologists recommend
drinking approximately 6-8 glasses of water daily. Keep in mind that soda and
coffee are not sources of water—in fact, caffeine acts as a diuretic and
discourages water absorption. Add a slice of lemon, lime, orange, cucumber or

FACERCISE on the Web

One hour private FACERCISE classes are now available via
Skype. This is an invaluable tool when mastering the FACERCISE regimen. Many FACERCISERS do the exercises incorrectly, even though they have read and re-read my book or purchased my DVDs. With a session via webcam, you will be able to see me perform the exercises and I can see your face and technique and correct anything you are doing wrong. Also, I can instruct you on some new exercises which are not in the book or on the DVD. The price for a one hour session is $175.
Those who have been long-time FACERCISERS are surprised how much they
benefit by taking a Skype Class. Some of the comments I get are “Wow I finally
feel the burn that you always talk about!” OR “I feel like the exercises were
so much more intense doing them with you via Skype.” And more importantly,
they are very pleased with their results in just one session because I can
specifically show them where they need to concentrate their focus. Muscles

ULTIMATE FACERCISE DVD

This kit contains one DVD and two CD’s. Before you begin, watch the DVD for
one full week twice daily to familiarize yourself with the exercises. Follow
along with the models demonstrating the exercises to get comfortable using
proper form, visualization and resistance movements. After one week, you
should be ready to listen to the Demonstration CD which is 12 minutes long and
provides complete detail. Perform the exercises with the Demonstration CD for
one week, twice daily. By this time, you should be comfortable with the
exercises and be able to perform them from memory. Next, you should be ready
to move onto the 8-Minute Super Set CD. The Super Set is a condensed version
of the exercises, without all the detailed explanations. I have found
following this format will allow you to avoid having to use the DVD every day.
Perform the Super Set twice daily for optimal results. The Super Set allows
you to complete the exercises in just 16 minutes a day! This CD can also be
used in the car. Just use one hand to press against the steering wheel for
resistance and the fingers of the other hand to pulse and visualize energy
flow. (It’s best to perform the exercises at stop signs or red lights.)

The
Beauty Benefits of Epsom Salt
While many of you may already know the therapeutic,
pain reducing benefits of an Epsom salt bath, few are aware of the positive
effects this pure mineral compound can have on beauty. Named after a bitter
saline spring in Surrey, England, Epsom salt boasts beneficial properties
that soothe the body, mind and soul. They are used to calm the nervous
system, soothe back and muscle pain, heal wounds, treating congestion, draw
toxins from the body and cure skin conditions. This natural remedy offers
such a wide array of benefits, it makes sense to enlist it as part of your
anti-aging arsenal.
Epsom salt is a compound that contains sulfur, magnesium and oxygen.
Research shows that magnesium and sulfate are readily absorbed through the
skin, making Epsom salt an excellent conduit. Magnesium helps the body
regulate the activity of more than 325 enzymes, reduces inflammation, boosts
muscle and nerve function and helps prevent the hardening of arteries.
Sulfates also help improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins and
help ease migraine headaches.
When
it comes to our beauty regime, obviously stress reduction can play an
important role. But the benefits of Epsom salts can be reaped in many other
easy, practical ways. Try these recommendations:
Exfoliation agent. Epsom salt is excellent for removing
dead skin. Mix a handful with a tablespoon of bath or olive oil in the
shower or bath. For your face, mix a half-teaspoon of Epsom salt with your
favorite cleanser for a gentle yet effective exfoliating treatment. Gently
massage into skin using circular motions and then rinse with cold water.
Dislodge blackheads. Mix a teaspoon of Epsom salt with
three drops of iodine into a half cup of boiling water. Use a cotton ball to
apply this mixture to blackheads.
Hair volumizer. Mix equal parts Epsom salt and deep
conditioner in a pan and then warm it. Massage through your hair and leave
it on for 20 minutes. For maximum results, cover with a shower cap and apply
heat. Rinse thoroughly.
Remove hairspray. Combine one cup of Epsom salt with one
gallon of water and a cup of lemon juice. Cover the mixture and let it set
for 24 hours. Then pour the mixture into dry hair and leave it on for 20
minutes. Shampoo and condition as normal.
Eliminate embarrassing foot odor. Soak your feet for 10
minutes in a mixture of warm water with a half cup of Epsom salt. This will
soothe aching feet, soften rough skin and get rid of odors.
Flush out toxins. Epsom salts contain sulfates, which help
flush toxins and heavy metals from our cells to ease cramps and muscle pain,
while helping the body eliminate harmful substances. Our skin is highly
porous, and when you add Epsom salt to bathwater, this triggers reverse
osmosis, which literally draws salt and harmful toxins out of your body.
Take a detoxifying bath at least once a week by adding two cups of Epsom
salt to your bath and soaking for at least 10 minutes.

your sunscreen ante
Summer is around the corner and while we want you to wear sunscreen all year
long, it’s even more imperative this time of year. And with all the time you
spend outdoors during spring and summer, whether you’re gardening, exercising or
enjoying recreational activities with the family, it’s not enough to just
slather some on. Below are some guidelines for proper sunscreen application.
Don’t wait until you’re in the sun. Even the best sunscreen
takes approximately 20 minutes for your skin to absorb—therefore you must
pre-apply it way before walking out the door.
Apply generously. When it comes to health and beauty, sunscreen
is the last place you want to skimp. The average adult requires about one ounce
of sunscreen to cover their face, neck, chest, hands, arms and legs.
Re-apply. If you’re swimming or sweating, make sure to re-apply your sunscreen
no less than every 90 minutes.
Layer properly. If you plan on wearing makeup, apply sunscreen
first so that the bottom layer lies directly on your skin.
Check expiration dates. Sunscreen loses its potency over time,
and exposure to extreme temperatures can shorten shelf life as well. Buy new
sunscreen often.

Dear Carol,
