There are four main Skin Types. Choose the one which most suits your face. Many people have a combination of these types working for them. Read the descriptions below to best match your skin to one of these types.
NORMAL
Normal skin has it all. It has good muscle tone, resiliency and optimum hydration. This kind of skin appears soft, plump, moist and exhibits a healthy color. It literally glows.
OILY
Oily skin is usually caused by heredity. It is the result of over active sebaceous (oily) glands. Something that stands out immediately with oily skin is a thick, shiny and somewhat slack appearance. An oily skin will sometimes appear to be dirty or neglected. The pores of the skin will probably appear to be enlarged, due to oil trapped in the pilosbaceous follicles. There may be a few blemishes on the chin or forehead areas and the skin feels oily to the touch.
OILY/BLEMISH
This type of skin has all the characteristics of oily skin with the following problems. This type of skin will usually have blemishes or active acne over the facial area.
DRY
With dry skin, the sebaceous glands are under-active and produce less than adequate secretions to properly moisturize the skin. This kind of skin is also a by-product of the aging process. The body’s activity slows down as we grow older and the oil gland activity slows down as well. Dry skin, lacking the necessary oil content, is unable to retain moisture, since oil in the skin acts as a natural barrier to moisture loss. The characteristics of dry skin include fine, delicate, thin skin with tiny, superficial lines. This type of skin wrinkles easily. |
